WNTA Help for Haiti
Thank You For Your Support.
We appreciated all of your efforts.

Thank you for joining us this Thursday January 28th out at Cherryvale Mall as we raised awareness and funding to help benefit the recent tragedy in Haiti. If you'd like to donate, but were unable to join us on Thursday, please take a look at the organizations below and give what you can. Thank you again.

The recent earthquakes in Haiti have been a pressing news topic, and while the various organizations are looking for donations, your children might be looking for answers. There are countless ways in which your children can help out or simply learn about earthquakes.

The American Red Cross

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.

Hope for Haitians
partnered with Food for the Poor

Hope for Haitians was formed 9 years ago by Tom Lorden, Pete Roche and Pat Bachrodt, after they traveled to Haiti and saw firsthand the horrendous living conditions in that small country, the malnutrition and the shacks the Haitians lived in. They immediately wanted to help in bringing clean water, safe housing and self-sustaining projects, along with hope to the poorest people in Haiti.

Currently Hope for Haitians has joined Food for the Poor in order to accomplish more and plan to reach their goal for 2009-2010. They plan on beginning construction on the Hope for Haitians Friendship Village in Madeline, Cap-Haitien, Haiti. With your donation you could help them meet this goal.

More than 96 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor. For more information, please visit www.foodforthepoor.org

Kids Around the World

Kids Around the World was founded in 1994 through the combined efforts of local businessman under the leadership of Dennis Johnson. Their goal at that time was to provide safe play equipment for children that found themselves in situations where it was difficult to just be a "kid". So often children find themselves as victims of situations out of their control, they become victims of economic stress, victims of political injustice, victims of natural disasters and worst of all, victims of war. It was for these children that Kids Around the World began.

We have been fortunate to partner with many organizations and foundations that would agree with us, that we need to do all we can for kids. There may be issues we disagree on, but we continue to work on the things we can support together, children.

If you'd like to support the cause you can give your time at a packing event, give your support of 25 cents a meal, or continue to pray for the kids of Haiti and many wonderful organizations impacting their daily lives. Kids Around the World has plans to send a team to Haiti the first week of April.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is preparing to send more than 44,000 lbs of pre-packaged emergency rations to the country and is working with other agencies to identify appropriate transportation for the food. Critical needs in Haiti include bottled water, medical teams with supplies and food. No time table has been set for the arrival of these goods because assessment teams have been unable to reach the country to arrange for these shipments.

As with all such relief efforts, The Salvation Army’s initial focus, in addition to the safety and security of officers, staff and volunteers in Haiti, will be to assess the immediate needs of the people affected by the earthquake, then utilize its resources to mobilize and ship food, water and other critical necessities to where they are most needed.
