Venues Committee Releases Report

The ad hoc group known as the Venues Committee releases its report and recommends that the Metro Centre Board be reconstituted and made into a single authority to manage all of the downtown facilities, which includes the Metro Centre, Coronado Performing Arts Center and Davis park among others.

Committee Chairman Mike Dunn says consolidating services will save taxpayer dollars and create a vision for downtown.

Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen says now is time for the city and county to be aggressive.  Mayor Larry Morrissey says he likes the idea of a central authority to be held accountable.  The study recommends that the reconstituted board hire a CEO.

The Rockford City Council and Winnebago County Board will now study the committee's recommendations and decide how much of the study will be approved.
