Shorter Parade Route

Members of Rockford's Irish Marching Society voiced their displeasure at the shortened parade route for this Saturday's Saint Patrick's Day parade.

Mayor Larry Morrissey read a proclamation recognizing the Marching Society's efforts to the community at last night's City Council meeting. Marching society member Jerry Goral says they have spent the past 30 years bringing thousands of people to the downtown, but says they will march in the downtown this year and see what happens.

City officials say the shorter parade route was done because of dwindling revenues to pay for police security along the route.
